Free Agency is around the corner and we are firmly in Soto Season. The Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Blue Jays, and Red Sox all seem to be in the mix for the young superstar. While I have no idea who he’ll sign with (my betting man instincts say he remains in New York), I’ll tell you who he won’t be playing for in 2025: The Toronto “take me for a ride” Blue Jays. The Jays are in on everyone until they’re out on everyone. A core that had once had so much promise, is now heading quickly in the wrong direction. Sorry, I should clarify. They’re not headed in the wrong direction, they are already there. Bottom of the AL East. Picking crumbs up off the floor. Why would Soto want to come up north? Well if your argument is to play with his friend Vladdy, well, that’s a weak-ass argument. I’m sure Juan Soto has more than one friend. He’s Juan Soto. If your argument is Rogers has enough money to give him the contract he wants, well, so do the Yankees and Mets, and they’re both in much better situations than the Blue Jays are. I’d love to see Soto in a Jays uniform, but it won’t happen. Just like Ohtani didn’t happen. You know when teams like the Yankees or Dodgers sign the big name free agents and everyone says, “ugh, of course. It’s SO Yankees/Dodgers to always get their guy”? Well, what’s the Blue Jays thing? It’s to be in on the Yankees/Dodgers guy, get excited, lose out, and then bring a guy like Kevin Kiermaier out of retirement as a backup plan. That is SO Blue Jays. Sorry for the stray, KK.
